Weight is a curious thing... while I don't know anyone that wants to be fat (Except maybe Hurley from lost, but then, if I was on the money he was on... I might keep a few kilo's around eh? :) ) getting motivated enough to loose it, can be really damn hard.
I'm a good example.
I was 78kgs and looked, for the most part, pretty good I think. I got up to around 83kgs, and apart from a little less definition, I'd say I was still relatively ok.
Then, from the space of April, to Christmas, my eating habits changed, my exercise habits changed, and my metabolism stopped outright. I hit 100kgs without even remembering where it all came from. I still look back at that time and wonder why I didn't do something about it AS it was happening, and the only thing I can think, is that I didn't notice it happening at all.
Well, a few weeks ago I saw a diet plan that looked pretty good. It explained quite well how it was going to work, and since I've managed to get back down to 100kgs from 112kgs that I was at my largest, and STAY that way for quite a while, I know that keeping weight off should really be no big deal (and I will monitor it closely).
Well last night I went to my in laws for dinner, and it turns out the diet I'd checked out, had been done for 8 weeks by a mate of my father in laws (who's 50btw), and he'd lost 12kgs.
That'd put me down to 88kgs, which would be incredible. I know I'd feel the difference and look different. I checked out the meal plan, and what you're supposed to limit yourself with, and I think I can do it.
8 weeks? It's nothing right? I mean, all in perspective of course, 8 weeks learning to be a surgeon is never going to work, and 8 weeks riding a bull in a rodeo is equally stupid, but 8 weeks of following a guide, doesn't seem that much of a stretch.
Additionally, some of the things it's asking me to do are things I do already. Drink 2 lts of water a day. Umm I already drink 3. Learn to tolerate being hungry. I already do.
I'm going down to where they set this thing up today around lunch time. Make sure it's right for me, and ask a few questions I have. If I decide to go through with it. I'll be taking before pics, and not subjecting ANYONE to them. :) it's for my reference only.
Also, this would have been an audio post if only I didn't have pretty bad hayfever. Expect the next one to be shorter, and probably a sound byte.
Play any instrument or speak any language, which do you choose?
Question submitted by cruftbox.vox.com.
I'd love to speak Irish Gaelic. I've learned a little through practical speaking, when I had an Irish intern working for the insurance company I worked for, and I loved it. It's got family ties for me as well, which has always made it something I "Want" to do. I've never had much trouble with instruments, at least not in any limiting fashion so language was always going to be my choice.
If not Irish, then Mandarin for practicality, or French if I ever move to Canada. :)
Soda? Cola? Pop? What do you say? Any other regional words that set you apart?
Question submitted by Gladys.
Well, generally in Australia, we call it soft drink. The only time I've heard the word Soda was from my Nan, when she was referring specifically to 'Soda Stream'.
I've done a little reading of late. Namely the Hacker's Diet.
I have looked into a few diet things for geeks before but none has made so much sense as this. While only at the beginning stages, I really think it might help me solve the issue. I've started by realising that first and foremost, I'm going to need to be a little hungry. All diets that say "You don't need to be hungry to loose weight" miss 1 critical point, and I think this book summed it up perfectly when they said.
"There is one, simple, unavoidable fact of dieting. To lose weight you have to eat less food than your body needs. Only by doing so can you cause your body to burn its reserves of fat and thereby shed excess weight. If nutrition is about meeting your body's needs, losing weight involves deliberately shortchanging those needs--in a word, starving."
While barbaric in some way, it's so true. I've also got my AMD processor in transit back to me, so my main machine (that I did the audio post from) will be back online, and I can post via text.
I know there are a few lurkers watching, and I'm hoping to lure you out to activity, so I'll start with an easy question.
If I do a vocal post, do you want a transcript as well?
